We will meet every Wednesday night at 6:00pm-8:30pm for 6 weeks from July 17th, 2024-August 21st, 2024, with open studio hours on Saturdays and Sundays (flexible hours! Door code will be provided) Three students total. We will be throwing exclusively with porcelain on the wheel. Experience with clay required (doesn't have to be porcelain). MUST HAVE experience in wedging, centering, and ability to throw at least five inches high. CLEANUP IS PART OF THE CLASS! WE MUST SKEDADDLE AT 8:30PM ON THE DOT! EXAMPLE CURRICULUM: Week 1: Introduction to the studio, a throwing demo. We will be making LAMPS! Week 2: Trimming demo. (After this point, try to do all trimming during open studio.) Week 3: Stirrup Pitchers made from a closed form with a stem, and also a spout. Week 4: Pulling and attaching two handles for the Stirrup Pitcher, trimming, attaching spout. Week 5: Final projects, this weekend will be the last time to make new work. Week 6: Glazing, final touches, and packing up to go. You will have full access to the studio space and use of the tools, including underglazes, heat gun, photography equipment, etc. CLAY IS PROVIDED. All students will share dedicated and spacious shelf storage for all their work. Feel free to bring your own tools. Please be mindful to clean up well (after all, there are only three of you!) Set-up and clean-up time usually takes about 15 mins each. This is a newly renovated space close to the F,G,Q trains, as well as many buses. I have an air filter, windows, A/C unit. The unique sink trap system keeps the plumbing clean but requires attention. We fire to cone 6 oxidation. $0.04/cubic inch (covers both bisque and glaze firings). Luster firing at additional charge, $0.04/cubic inch. Please note that this class is a learning and sharing space. It is NOT a membership space! Signing up for classes as a means of using it as a membership is not gonna fly (aka no production pottery). Please stick to the hours of operation. There are only 6 weeks, so 2 absences is missing a third of the class! More than 2 absences will result in your spot given up to someone on the waitlist, and no refunds. We are here to deep dive into the craft and better our skills. Personal projects welcome, so if there was something specific you want to accomplish please let me know. For example, you want to try sgraffito, etc.

Cancellation Policy

PRIVATE LESSONS: Due to the limited availability, I cannot offer refunds for cancellations within two days of the private lesson. Full refunds are offered if the cancellation happens before the two day period.
