Description: Please Read

We will meet every Monday night from 6:30pm-9pm for 6 weeks from March 4th- April 8th, with open studio hours on Saturdays and Sundays (flexible hours! Students just use a door code). Three students only, so lots of step by step guidance. We will be throwing exclusively with porcelain on the wheel. You don't need any experience in ceramics at all. It is recommended that you bring your own hand towel and basic tools, otherwise, I have tools in the studio. This class is about discipline, technical skill, and design. I won't be coddling wonky pots by calling them "organic" or "rustic." The goal is to make work with intention, understand tangible goals... making work that your future self won't hate! EXAMPLE CURRICULUM: Week 1: Introduction to the studio, a throwing demo. Try to keep one piece. Week 2: Trimming the piece from week 1. More practice: remember quality over quantity. Week 3: More throwing and trimming. Week 4: Glaze demo. Week 5: Final projects, last class to make new work, but you can also make work in open studio as long as you can get it finished before the semester ends. Week 6: Glazing, final touches, and packing up to go. You will have full access to the studio space and use of the tools, including underglazes, heat gun, photography equipment, etc. CLAY IS PROVIDED. The three students will share dedicated shelf storage for all their work. Please be mindful to clean up WELL especially beginners! (after all, there are only three of you!) Set-up and clean-up time usually takes about 15-20 mins. MUST SKEDADDLE BY 9PM. This is a newly renovated space close to the F,G,Q trains, as well as many buses. A high powered ventilation unit clears the air, and the unique water system keeps the studio clean. We fire to cone 6 oxidation, $0.04/cubic inch (covers both bisque and glaze firings). Please note that this class is a learning and sharing space. It is NOT a membership space! Signing up for classes as a means of using it as a membership is not gonna fly (aka no production pottery). Please stick to the hours of operation. There are only 6 weeks, so 2 absences is missing a third of the class! *no luster firing provided for beginner's courses.
